The Continental Lounge (2801 W. Chicago) asked me to hang some rock ‘n’ roll photos on their walls and I happily agreed to do so.  The opening reception is this Friday, September 12th at 7PM. There’ll be about 20 prints for you to look at while you drink booze.  The prints should be hanging around for a few weeks and The Continental is a 4AM bar so stumble in there and check ‘em out!

ANDREA AND RYAN

Andrea and Ryan got married at El Cid on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood! It was a real cool, laid back affair with a lot of rock show flair that was void of almost any of the traditional wedding fare. The whole shebang blew off just before sunset with some cocktails and fried appetizers before everybody gathered around El Cid’s stage for the quickest ceremony that I’ve ever seen…just under 4 minutes according to my camera data! In a few flashes, our lovely couple was pronounced and smooching in front of a huge, plushy cat backdrop (masterfully stitched by Rebecca Hinsdale). The crowd lovingly roared with approval and the party continued. The large array of deep fried, breaded food was served and a BUFFALO SAUCE FOUNTAIN began to flow. Everybody imbibed and danced the night away to loud, pounding rock and roll records. Whatta night!

NIK TURNER’S HAWKWIND, KILLER MOON AND PLASTIC CRIMEWAVE SYNDICATE

Here are some pics from a psyched-out nutzoid show that happened at Reggies a couple weeks back.  First, Plastic Crimewave Syndicate  bashed through some spaced out punk jams, then Killer Moon oozed some droney, tripped out tunes, and then Nik Turner’s Hawkwind  hit the stage. I love the Hawkwind of the yesteryears and heard that there were currently two versions of this legendary band touring and fighting over who gets to be called Hawkwind so who knew if this would be any good.  Man!  This thing floored me.  Nik’s band was composed of some dudes from a bunch of classic British punk bands and they totally ripped through a ton of Hawkwind’s Space Ritual era songs.  It was so unbelievably good, it cruised along for at least an hour and a half, and I was really sad that it ended.  I can’t wait to see David Brock’s Hawkwind in March!

WHATTA ‘WEEN!

Crown Tap Room in Logan Square was transformed into a the kind of  holiday hell house that could only be built from the dreams of one serious Halloweener.  That ‘Ween dreamer was none other than Shana East.   Cover bands included The Damned, The Cramps , Devo and GG Allin (with whom I had the pleasure of playing bass!)  The best costume award went to a large pile of trash (pictured below).

I wasn’t expecting to make it to  Mickey’s tour kick-off show  but somehow I made it.  The dudes were all greased up in glam paint and luckily I had a cruddy little point and shoot camera in my pocket.
