POISONER

Chris Hefner began shooting his new feature film, The Poisoner, last week.  I loitered around the set while some fantastically spooky images were  constructed all around us.  The first day of shooting took place at the endangered Portage Theater and carried on to a former furniture factory in Jefferson Park that has become the film’s production house.  I’m looking forward to dropping in on the set in the future and seeing what kind of monster it will become!

EATIN’ ICE CREAM WITH MEGAN AND LUKE

Megan and Luke revisited one of their teen-age haunts while I licked at ice cream and snapped photos all at once.  Multi-tasking can be both fun and delicious.  The Chocolate Shoppe rules and so do Megan and Luke!  I’m psyched to shoot their wedding next month.

STERN

My dream of touring the factory of the last pinball giant has finally been fulfilled.  I got to roam the Melrose Park facility and test out their new AC/DC pinball machine.  A handful of the photos that I snapped ran alongside a feature article that Miles Raymer wrote for The Chicago Reader.  Check it out here!

SHOOT THE MOON

Chris Hefner (the fellow pictured below),  is in the pre-production phase of his new feature film, The Poisoner.  We built this  paper…..well… plywood, really… moon and set it up as a sort of photo booth at The Everleigh Social Club during a fundraising event for the film’s budget.  Check out a more robust selection of the photos here:  http://rkarlic-moon.tumblr.com/

WHATTA ‘WEEN!

Crown Tap Room in Logan Square was transformed into a the kind of  holiday hell house that could only be built from the dreams of one serious Halloweener.  That ‘Ween dreamer was none other than Shana East.   Cover bands included The Damned, The Cramps , Devo and GG Allin (with whom I had the pleasure of playing bass!)  The best costume award went to a large pile of trash (pictured below).

ARTS OF LIFE

I recently had  the pleasure of photographing The Arts of Life Band at as they rocked  way out to other dimensions and flaunted their new band costumes during their Fashion Forward event.  They play out fairly often and produce tons of art nearly every day.  Take a tour of  The Arts of Life Studio at 2010 W. Carroll Ave.

OSCAR’S HAIRY BALLS

….is  what they call the bulbous green fellas.  I learned this and more funny flower names on a recent visit  to Pollen Floral Designs, in Ravenswood, where Lynn Fosbender arranges some seriously interesting and unique floral goods.

SO LONG SUMMER

There it went….again.  These were shot with a little plastic underwater camera that I found at a convenience store for 10 bucks.  I really dig the grain, color distortion and vignetting.

Took a real long route along the shores of two Great Lakes to shoot Kate and Mark’s wedding in Detroit.  I’ll post some wedding highlights real soon.
