This past weekend marked the 3rd annual Krampusnact celebration in Chicago.  The party started with a costumed procession from Maria’s Packaged Goods to  The Co-Prosperity Sphere, a couple blocks away.  The place was packed with Krampus related art, games and costumed monsters artists like  EC Brown, Stephanie Burke, Justine Harlan, Angela Lopez, Celeste Neuhaus, Kevin Jennings, Frank Pollard and Catie Olson, a photo booth by Rebecca Hinsdale.  There was plenty of glogg, beer and sausages for everybody’s face.  The partying and dancing went on until late into the night and I can’t wait to do it again next year!  Go Here to view the full gallery.

ART AND LIZ

Art and Liz had a pretty sweet little wedding at Prairie Productions. First I met with Art at a nearby hotel as he finished getting all groomed up. Then I sprinted over to the venue as Liz was having her final touches of makeup applied. As the guests arrived, Liz hid out of sight. Art made his way to the front of the congregation and waited for his first glimpse of Liz. Our couple exchanged vows and sealed it with a kiss. Now it was time to wine dine and Party! Everybody twisted the night away as Emily, from Toast and Jam, kicked out the tunes. It was such a lovely wedding great group to photograph. Congrats Art and Liz!

MICHELLE AND ÅKE

Lilacia Park, in Lombard, is one of Michelle’s favorite haunts so she and Åke decided to have their wedding ceremony there.  Åke got all choked up as Michelle walked down the grass aisle.  Their friend, Brian Morgan, pulled a double duty as both officiant and florist.  After a short and sweet ceremony, we strolled around the park to take some portraits and then headed to the hotel bar where the guests were sipping some cocktails.  Meanwhile, the final touches were being made to Michelle’s sister’s backyard…where the party was about to blow up!  Åke’s family came in all the way from Sweden to attend the wedding and they brought some strong Swedish booze with them!  Everybody toasted in glasses that Åke engraved his and Michelle’s initials into and the cake was cut…..even stabbed!  The party moved on over to the dance floor where things got wild and a little bit wet (it was raining outside of the tent).  One hell of fun night and a great party to shoot!

ANDREA AND RYAN

Andrea and Ryan got married at El Cid on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood! It was a real cool, laid back affair with a lot of rock show flair that was void of almost any of the traditional wedding fare. The whole shebang blew off just before sunset with some cocktails and fried appetizers before everybody gathered around El Cid’s stage for the quickest ceremony that I’ve ever seen…just under 4 minutes according to my camera data! In a few flashes, our lovely couple was pronounced and smooching in front of a huge, plushy cat backdrop (masterfully stitched by Rebecca Hinsdale). The crowd lovingly roared with approval and the party continued. The large array of deep fried, breaded food was served and a BUFFALO SAUCE FOUNTAIN began to flow. Everybody imbibed and danced the night away to loud, pounding rock and roll records. Whatta night!

TYLER AND LINDSAY

We started our day at The Blackstone Hotel, where Tyler and Lindsay got all fancied up for the big wedding. Once they were ready, they met up for their first glances of each other and my camera went clicking away.  We grabbed the bridal party, took a walk down Michigan Ave. and took a few pics in the  Art Institute’s Garden.  The ceremony and reception both took place at The Roosevelt University Library in the beautiful and historic Auditorium  Building.  After a lovely  ceremony, the guests grabbed cocktails and did a little mingling.  I really loved all of the book themed decorations….pretty clever, being at a library and all.  Everybody feasted on some of Wishbone’s finest meats and sides and then on came the party!  Cage and Aquarium provided some unruly jams and the guest brought one of the wildest dance floors I’ve seen.  There was a real rowdy Hora that seemed to bring sheer terror to our groom.  Hora-fied!  Things got wilder and wilder as the night went on.  Aint no shushing going on in this library!  Thanks to Tyler, Lindsay and all of their guest for making this bash such a blast to shoot.

THE FALL OF 2012, THE RISE OF THE POISONER

Way back in December of 2012, folks believed that the End Days were upon us. Chris Hefner painted this badass end of the world snow globe backdrop and we set it up in a corner of The Kimball Arts Center as part of a benefit to fund the final touches of Chris’ film, The Poisoner. The end of the wold jitters seemed to make everyone real drunk and sloppy and our beautiful backdrop eventually came tumbling down. Fortunately, the real globe is still hanging and The Poisoner will be upon us shortly.  The official trailer was released today.  See it here!

Toast & Jam threw their annual farewell to the wedding season bash where all of our favorite vendors have their chance cut loose and party down like no one is watching…..but I was there taking photos. Here’s some photographic evidence that Toast and Jam DJ’s can rip it up!

PARTY IN A RED BARN

My dear friends, Mark and Alison, asked me to shoot their wedding….and hold down a groomsman position.  Not knowing how this would be possible, I said “hell yeah!” and ordered a remote  control thingy so I can include myself in a few photos.  The wedding is taking place  at and around a barn in Indiana, their will be fireworks involved and my beloved friends can party in ways that most folks just don’t know how to.  I would be heartbroken if I couldn’t run around this wedding with a camera!

Alison James (soon to be Mckenzie) designed and screen printed the invitation pictured below.  They’re among the coolest wedding invitations that I’ve ever seen and if you’re lucky, she might provide a service for the general public one day.

Chris Hefner (the fellow pictured below),  is in the pre-production phase of his new feature film, The Poisoner.  We built this  paper…..well… plywood, really… moon and set it up as a sort of photo booth at The Everleigh Social Club during a fundraising event for the film’s budget.  Check out a more robust selection of the photos here:  http://rkarlic-moon.tumblr.com/

WHATTA ‘WEEN!

Crown Tap Room in Logan Square was transformed into a the kind of  holiday hell house that could only be built from the dreams of one serious Halloweener.  That ‘Ween dreamer was none other than Shana East.   Cover bands included The Damned, The Cramps , Devo and GG Allin (with whom I had the pleasure of playing bass!)  The best costume award went to a large pile of trash (pictured below).
