Hilja and Zach

Hilja and Zach are getting married in a few weeks! We met up in The West Loop, where the temp was about 15 degree and we quickly began to freeze. We had to seek warmth and shelter and we found it at Chicago’s smokiest bar, Richards. That’s where Zach and Hilja first met. Zach and Hilja were so much fun to hang around and photograph. I can’t wait to shoot them again early next month!

AMBER AND JON

Amber and Jon are getting married in May! We recently met for a fun engagement shoot that started at their apartment.   We tried to work their skittish little cat, Butters, into the pics and managed to get just  a few before little Butters slipped away.  Good job Butters!  Then we took a stroll over to Winnemac Park for some shots in the autumnal sunset.  Amber has a background in improv and was not afraid to get a little silly.  I love when that happens!  I can’t wait to shoot Amber and Jon’s wedding in a few months!

Jeff and Lindsay are getting married in June and they asked me to meet up with them and their adorable dog Jasper at the Lincoln Park Nature Walk to take some “save the date” pics. We met a few months earlier when Jeff surprised Lindsay with a ring and a proposal while I hid in the bushes and documented the action. Congrats Jeff and Lindsay!

I met up with Jon and Kristine on sweltering day at Salvage One, where they’ll be getting married early next year.   We strolled inside and out of the space and stumbled upon a piano, where Jon showed off some of his ivory tickling talents.   Every corner of Salvage is like a photographer’s dream and Jon and Kristine are awesome to hang with and shoot.  I’m looking forward to the wedding in a few months!

BILLY AND MADDIE

I get to shoot Billy and Maddie’s wedding later this year and I know it’s gonna be a wild one!  We met up an “engagement” session at a place that is near and dear to their hearts…..the local supermarket.  I was thrilled by the challenge of photographing them in such an unromantic place.  They sure made it easy.   We took some pics, and exchanged some recipes as they loaded their cart.  After checkout, we headed over to one of their favorite watering holes; The Whistler.  We took a few photos in the bar and then wandered out to the patio with fancy cocktails in hand.  It was a lot of fun hanging and shooting these two and I’m really looking forward to the wedding.

PAT AND LIZ

Pat and Liz will be getting hitched in a few months and they asked me to photograph the festivities.  At first, they weren’t to crazy about doing an engagement shoot so we decided to keep it real informal. Perfect!  We met up for a pretty loose shoot at the historic Old Town Ale House, right across the street from Second City, where Pat does improv.  The nicotine stained portraits of the bar’s past customers watched over us as we chatted and took pictures between sips of our drinks.  It was a fun hang and I’m pretty psyched about shooting their wedding in 2015!

FRANK AND KEVIN

I’ll be photographing Frank and Kevin’s wedding in a couple months so we met up at their place to get to know each other a little better and to give ‘em a taste of what it’s like to have a camera continually pointed at them.  All  was fun and successful!  I captured them in their natural state of Sunday relaxation.  That involved some tea drinking, couch lounging, studying up on their professions (Frank’s a hair dresser and Kevin is a podiatrist.) and general goofing around.  After checking out their awesome rooftop view of Chicago’s South Loop, we headed down to Pilsen to grab a few pics in front of one of their favorite murals. These gents are a lot of fun to hang around with and I know that their wedding will be a blast!

COURTNEY AND ALEX

Courtney and Alex met while working at the Shedd Aquarium. That’s also where Alex popped the big question. With that much magic and the Shedd’s dreamy interior, it seemed like an obvious backdrop for Courtney and Alex’s engagement shoot. I’m really looking forward to shooting their wedding later this year!

KEVIN AND DEB

Kevin and Deb’s Wedding was a two-parter.  On the first day, we hailed a cab to City Hall and got in line with a bunch of other smilin’ couples where we waited for the doors to bust open.  A small group of Kevin and Deb’s immediate family met up with us to witness the magic. The clock struck 9AM and everybody filed into the building and waited for their names to be called.  After a few short minutes, Kevin and Deb were called into the chambers. The judge uttered a few magic words and with a wave of his hand, our lovely couple were married.  After the lightning-quick ceremony, the couple and I took a quick stroll around the loop for some pics and then jumped on the train to head back toward their Lincoln Square Hood.  We stopped at a pretty little community garden for a few more portraits and called it a day.

Kevin and Deb didn’t want to spend any of their precious party energy on getting married, so the party part of the wedding took place 2 weeks after they were married.  This proved to be a good idea as all the revelers were fully energized and ready to party.  Everybody ate, danced and chatted and rocked the night away while still being able to enjoy a beautiful autumn evening, curtesy Dank Haus’ huge balcony.  This party was so much fun.  There was even a giant cannoli stuffed with little cannolis!  Thanks for asking me to be a part!
